About

Jeremiah Ray is an interdisciplinary artist and writer based in coastal Maine. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Jeremiah’s visual artwork mirrors his life, reflecting an ongoing journey of exploration and discovery. During his formative years, he traveled extensively, immersing himself in various languages and cultures to satisfy his thirst for adventure and to gain a deeper understanding of himself.

Jeremiah completed his MFA in studio art with one clear intention: to teach. He wanted to help others discover and refine their unique, personal artistic language. He has always believed that art goes beyond verbal communication. Finding one’s voice in a specific medium and using it to express nonverbal messages is both the greatest challenge and the most powerful skill an artist can possess.

In 2016, Jeremiah was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer, which drastically changed his perspective on both visual and written art. This experience solidified his belief that art is a universal language. Confronted with the emotional burden of his diagnosis, Jeremiah became increasingly aware that he often struggled to find the right words to understand and share his experiences fully. During this challenging time in his life, he committed himself to answering two core questions: What does it mean to be vulnerable? And how can I communicate this vulnerability to others?

With these questions in mind, he has embarked on a journey of healing and self-discovery.
