Jeremiah Ray is an interdisciplinary artist and writer based in coastal Maine. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Jeremiah’s visual artwork reflects his life, showcasing his continuous journey of exploration and discovery. Throughout his formative years, he traveled extensively, immersing himself in different languages and cultures to quench his thirst for adventure and deepen his self-understanding.
Jeremiah completed his MFA in studio art with a clear intention: to teach. He aims to help others discover and refine their unique artistic voices. He believes that art transcends verbal communication. Finding one’s voice in a specific medium and using it to convey nonverbal messages represents both the greatest challenge and the most powerful skill an artist can possess.
In 2016, Jeremiah was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer, which profoundly changed his perspective on both visual and written art. This experience reinforced his belief that art is a universal language. Faced with the emotional burden of his diagnosis, Jeremiah became increasingly aware of his struggle to find the right words to fully understand and share his experiences. During this challenging time, he committed himself to answering two fundamental questions: What does it mean to be vulnerable? And how can I communicate this vulnerability to others?
With these questions in mind, he has embarked on a journey of healing and self-discovery.
